What is a Facelift & Necklift?
The goal of a facelift and necklift is to improve the facial aging of the lower 1/3 of the face and neck. A midface lift can be added to the facelift in order to improve sagging of the upper and mid-cheek region. Facial aging is caused by multiple factors including sun exposure, loss of volume, repetitive muscle action, skin laxity, and tissue descent. Patients who are unhappy with the appearance of the jawline, neck, nasolabial folds, and marionette lines (the lines around the mouth) may be good candidates for a facelift.

Facelift Recovery and Aftercare
Following facelift surgery, ointments, dressings, and a mildly compressive neckband may be placed. In some cases, a small drain is placed which is removed in the early postoperative period. The drain serves to prevent the buildup of fluid during the recovery process.
Swelling and bruising are expected postoperatively. Activity restrictions will be in place for a period of time following the surgery to allow for healing, decrease swelling, reduce bleeding, and minimize the risks of postoperative complications. Pain medication, oral antibiotics, and topical antibiotics are often used in the recovery period. Dr. Aya-ay and her staff will review the postoperative instructions with you at your consultation and again at your preoperative visit to ensure that you are comfortable with your postoperative care.
